Founders' Note
A Father/Daughter Duo

In 2018, before the world changed with Covid, the U.S. economy was thriving. Yet, there was a critical shortage of shipping trucks and drivers, causing shipping costs in my industry to skyrocket.

Having owned a truck since my early 20s, I was acutely aware of the unused cargo space in personal vehicles—truck beds, SUV interiors, and car trunks—crisscrossing the country daily. Millions of vehicles on our highways carried little to no cargo, representing a vast, untapped resource for transportation.

This sparked an idea: what if we utilized all that unused space to help alleviate the shipping shortage? While personal trucks and vehicles can’t match the capacity of semi-trailers, an army of private vehicles could collectively create a powerful alternative. By carrying packages or freight during their personal trips, drivers could offset or even cover the cost of their travel.

The benefits don't stop there. This approach could reduce energy consumption in transportation, minimize packaging waste through reusable, lockable containers designed for various vehicle types, and offer unparalleled security—each container accessible only to the sender and recipient. With advanced software to track shipments, drivers could maximize their earnings by efficiently loading multiple packages.

Then Covid hit, and like many others, my priorities shifted. Now, nearly six years later, my daughter Victoria and I are ready to bring this vision to life. We've realized we're not alone—others have since explored similar concepts, further validating the idea and its potential.

We’re excited to introduce HapShip: a smarter, more sustainable way to connect shippers and drivers, transforming how goods move across the country.

We hope you come along,

Wade and Victoria Hickam
